Over the counter colon cleanse – anything good out there?

There are several OTC colonic cleanse products available on the current market. If you go to any drugstore or grocery or Walmart or Target, you’ll see them for sale. How good are these products, though? I’ve tried almost all of them at one previous point or another and can, I feel, offer some basic guidance that hopefully you’ll find useful.

One product I use is Procter & Gamble’s metamucil drink. It’s cheaply priced and goes from $14 to $16 at Walmart. You get 114 doses approximately and is well worth the price. I do endorse adding more than the recommended one small spoon per 8 ounces of liquid, though. Add 2 or 3 medium sized large spoons.

This will give you a good movement. In reality as a test, try having a single meal throughout the day — like a fiber-rich vegetable salad — and drinking like 4 or 5 or more of these metamucil drinks during the day. This will give you some very good movements over the following day or two. Mind you that the product is made mostly of psyllium husks (a super colon cleanse ingredient) nonetheless it works. The ingredients in this product are:

  • Psyllium husks
  • Maltodextrin
  • Synthesised flavor
  • Citric acid
  • Malic acid
  • Acesulfame potassium
  • Aspartame
  • Red 40
  • Blue 1

The last 2 ingredients are essentially dyes. While this isn’t the best colonic cleanse product, it will help. It will not strip mucoid plaque off the bowel walls nonetheless it will provide help to remove bulked up fecal matter in the abdominal tract as well as in the large colon. For basic cleansing, it’s good and it works. It’s also easy to take — roughly. I like taking mine in filtered water combined with Vitamineral Green, a dried green drink product that is truly major.

It’s bizarre — a weird green colour — but the fruit flavour of the metamucil basically masks the taste of the green supplement. Well, it mostly masks it. You can still taste it. They have orange flavored and berry flavoured. I like the orange better as it’s more varied. The berry is nicer tasting, though, by itself.

However , if you’d like a “big league” colon cleaner, you will have to look some place else.
